Clubs and Activities
St James Institute is home to many clubs offering a wide variety of activities, with something suitable for all ages, from snooker to table tennis, to vintage brass band and dance.
Merton Table Tennis Club
Merton is a well established club formed over seventy years ago. Based in St James Institute Southbourne we have a specially equipped hall to the rear of the building providing excellent playing facilities for players of all standards and ages.
With an average of 100 members registered each year, the club is the largest in the Bournemouth area and currently has 9 representative teams in the Bournemouth League from Division 3 up to the Premier.
Whether you are a total beginner, a serious competition player, or coming back to the sport, all are equally welcome. If you want to play for a bit of exercise, or just to meet new people and try something new, please get in touch.
MLC Dance
MLC Dance is an exciting Dance School based in Bournemouth on the South Coast.
Michelle formed the school after a very successful teaching career working under the banner of a number of local studios & has over 35 years of teaching experience.
‘I’m passionate about my dancing and really wanted to put my own stamp and brand on my business’.
Focusing on Ballroom, Latin American, and Sequence, I teach from absolute beginner through to the highly experienced. Fundamental, is that the pupil feels at the centre of the lesson, has a great time and comes away knowing that they’ve learnt something.
St James Institute Snooker Club
The snooker club at St James Institute is one of the best in the area. A membership-only club, facilities include four full-size snooker tables.
G.E.M.S. Circus Arts School
A leading youth circus school in Dorset, situated on the stunning coast!
Our classes are taught in a safe, fun, inclusive and well structured environment by friendly teachers who all come from circus backgrounds. All students learn to Grip Elevate Move and Shine when becoming part of our spectacular circus school.
Christchurch Vintage Brass Band
Vintage Brass performs several main concerts each year, often raising money for specific charities. Since its formation as a full band in 2007 Vintage Brass has raised over £30,000 for worthy causes. The band also gives lunchtime recitals at local churches and welcomes being invited to play at fetes, community celebrations, charity fund-raising occasions and also private parties. Please contact our Concert Organiser to enquire about arrangements and the likely fee.
Vintage Brass practices every Monday afternoon at the St. James Institute in Southbourne. Players of all abilities are welcome as the band provides training for inexperienced and improving players.
